I published to the world, (or at least those that saw my Linkedin feed) that I would start documenting my AI journey – it’s time to get more immersed.
There’s bombardment of conversation / marketing / educational AI focused material everywhere you look, which is getting pretty intense. What’s the noise, where’s the clutter and what’s right to embrace and adopt?
My career has been staffing, starting with friends that mostly looked like faxes, rolodex’ and a whole lot of paper. Roll on, three decades and we’re talking about technology advancements that can do a lot, if not all of this job for you.
Scary? Not so much actually.
Over the years, and certainly since Raymond George was incepted, we’ve embraced tools, that have helped us break out of the general mould, we’ve tried and tested pretty much most types of advancement, with some margin of success, perhaps with some tools I’d even consider us early adopters. Having said that we have, almost without exception ditched every tool we’ve tried at some point, in favour of personalisation, specific, better control and human intervention.
I still hold the belief that personal matters, ALOT! What’s happening now though, feels bigger, more transitional than the tools that we’ve tried in the past, and worth paying considerable more attention to;
Here’s what I am interested in;
- What do I need to know to become dangerous personally
- What will help my team working in recruitment and the people we serve
- How I can share my journey to help others in my shoes
P.S. I am not a tech expert (and never will be) but I am very quick to see the benefits of most tools and how they relate to the staffing business.
Based on my post and intent to document my AI Journey in Recruitment, Dave Lewis comments “I’d recommend reading some of Tayla Burrell’s articles on Substack about using Claude. She writes really well and has a free Claude MBA programme which is incredibly useful.”
Thanks Dave, my intent (although we are already on Thursday) is to check this out in more detail this week, so the clock is ticking.
Here’s what happened last week;
Listened to 3 podcasts, which were hosted by Matt Alder regarding Recruiting and AI
Interesting, nothing crazy in terms of content, but easy listening and a good use of time while driving. They made me feel more familiar with the topic and affirmed that in terms of where I am from a learning perspective, I probably sit right in the middle of the pack. Each of us likely knows more than we think, just haven’t necessarily paid enough attention to how it might impact each of our business’ in a better way.
I joined an online session promoting prompt writing for BD within recruitment using AI.
The topic wasn’t wholly relevant for me, as business development in Rec2Rec is mostly organic and the market is so candidate driven it’s mostly not needed. My interest really was to see what was going on and to experience a session hosted by Sean Anderson as he has a strong profile in the Recruiting learning space.
My network is wide, and mostly it’s shaped by staffing folks, Recruiter to CEO and CEO to Recruiter across North America and the UK. A conversation I had this week enlightened me of one organisation that has already implemented an AI agent in every part of their recruiting process. I am sure that’s not unique, but adoption of technology and a forward facing attitude with tech will give them a competitive advantage in the market place. Kudos
It reminded me that every conversation is a learning opportunity. Whether the information we gather is beneficial immediately or not, each nugget will have benefit in some form at some point. We need to be intentional about the conversations and build a better toolkit. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, we are all learning.
GPT v Claude v Gemini v ??
I spent some time trying to figure out what I should use for what. I went down a rabbit hole, in fact I was creating a warren there at one point. After pulling myself out, our team just decided to jump in. Let’s test each and see what the results are and how they differ. One size might not fit all and each team member will likely have their preference. We’ve got three going now.
Buzzwords
- Humanintheloop – adopted immediately
- Substacks – not entirely sure what this is, but seems like Taylor Burrell (as referenced above) does. I’ll read what she has to say.
Summary of last week
Wrote this and re wrote this at least 10 times with manually. Time to get Claude involved.
