AI in Recruitment: Overwhelmed

By Julie Robinson

WOW, week 2 came and went without me documenting my findings and weeks focus on AI, which showed me that either I need;

  1. more tools in my life so that I can keep up with the goals that I set myself or;
  2. better time management system to devote more time to writing about what I did or;
  3. to set different expectations that I can actually deliver on or;
  4. change the documentation expectation of my journey, not titled by week :o)
  5. a combo of 1 – 4

Even though I didn’t document anything publicly I did spend some time with the AI topic.

We received our first job order from an existing client that’s investing in AI, and curiosity and AI literacy will now be one of their hiring criteria.  Eek!

Note: Process implemented at our end to gather that information during the interview process.

I did subscribe to Tayla Burrell’s learning module.  Throw in some ADD, and I realise this is not the best way for me to learn.  Result:  Parked for the moment. Subscription spent.

I spent an hour interviewing a candidate for one of the roles we are working on, (no AI required in that role) and the conversation morphed, entirely naturally to the point where I’ve engaged him on a part time basis to teach us what he knows about AI. They have a keen interest in sharing their knowledge, has great communication skills and high relatability to what we do.

The irony wasn’t lost on me that through human connection and conversation we took a step that may help us solve some of our business challenges with AI.

We’ve had our first session and the lesson cemented from this is.

Figure out what the problem is first, before you try and solve it.  Throwing a bunch of tools at something that wasn’t really a problem, just because there is an awful lot of noise on LinkedIn isn’t smart.

GPT v Claude v Gemini v ??

Who cares at this point.

Buzzwords

  • Sub stacks – still no idea what this means, but it’s ok :o)

Summary of last week

Took me longer to get to what I wanted to write, but wrote it quickly, again manually.

Time to get some help from an expert.
