ChatGPT tells us how it will impact the recruitment industry

By now, almost everyone has heard of ChatGPT. But in case you haven’t because you’ve just emerged from a solo three-month retreat in a remote mountain cave (welcome back!), we’ll tell you what it is.

ChatGPT is an AI-powered tool launched last November by artificial intelligence startup OpenAI. The chatbot allows users to have very impressive Q&A-style interactions by typing in questions or commands.  Usually within a few seconds, ChatGPT responds with detailed, comprehensive answers that appear to have been written by humans. It’s touted to have a range of applications like writing emails, messages, essays, and articles.

It does have its limitations. Its knowledge, for example, is cut off in 2021 – a fact it will share with you itself – and it does not have direct access to the internet, so some information may be outdated. It can also only spit out what has been put in, so a lot of the information it shares may be inaccurate, as it does not have the ability to think critically about the sources from which it pulls.

At the moment ChatGPT is free for the public to use in Beta mode to allow creators to test and collect feedback, and it will soon move to a paid format, which is said will cost about $600 a year. Following the release of ChatGPT, OpenAI was valued at $29 billion.

You might also have heard that ChatGPT will have far reaching applications and might be about to put some people, like copywriters and content creators, out of jobs. Nobody is sure exactly how that is going to play out, but it’s certain that ChatGPT will have applications in pretty much every industry, including recruitment, making aspects of the job easier and changing the way we do some (or many) things.

It can be difficult for laypeople to predict exactly how technologies will be applied, so we asked ChatGPT itself to tell us how it will change the recruitment industry. Here’s what it had to say:

Raymond George. “How will ChatGPT impact the recruitment industry?”

Chat GPT: “ChatGPT, as a language model, has the potential to impact the recruitment industry in a number of ways. One potential use case is in automating the initial screening of job applicants. ChatGPT can be trained on a dataset of job descriptions and resumes to identify relevant qualifications and experience, allowing recruiters to quickly sort through a large number of applicants. Additionally, ChatGPT can be used to generate personalized responses to job applicants, reducing the time and effort required for recruitment teams to communicate with candidates. However, it’s worth noting that these are just some examples of how ChatGPT could be used in the recruitment industry, and actual implementation would depend on how the technology is integrated into existing processes and systems.”

RG: “How can ChatGPT help with the job interview process?”

CGPT: “ChatGPT can be used to help with the job interview process in a few different ways.

“One way is by creating a virtual interviewer that can conduct initial screening interviews with job applicants. ChatGPT can be trained on a dataset of interview questions and answers to simulate an interview and assess the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This can help to quickly identify the most suitable candidates for further consideration.

“Another way is by helping interviewers to generate more personalized and relevant questions for the interview. ChatGPT can be trained on a dataset of job descriptions and resumes, and can suggest questions based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This can help to ensure that the interviewer is well-prepared for the interview and can obtain the necessary information to make a hiring decision.

“Lastly, ChatGPT can also be used to generate automated interview summary reports, where the chatbot can summarize the key points of the interview, the candidate’s strengths and weaknesses, and a final recommendation. This can help the recruiters to have a clear and concise view of the interview and make a decision more efficiently.

“It’s worth noting that the impact of ChatGPT on the job interview process would depend on the quality of the dataset and the specific use case, and it’s important to consider ethical and legal issues when using AI in the recruitment process.”

RG: “How can ChatGPT be used to generate personalized responses to job applicants?”

CGPT: ChatGPT can be used to generate personalized responses to job applicants by first training the model on a dataset of example responses to job applicant inquiries. Once trained, the model can then generate personalized responses based on the specific information provided by the job applicant in their inquiry, such as their qualifications and experience. One can also use the model to generate responses to common questions asked by job applicants and then use those pre-generated responses to quickly respond to similar inquiries in the future. Additionally, the model can also be fine-tuned with additional data to personalize the responses to better fit the company’s tone and style.”

We also asked ChatGPT to create a generic job posting for a software developer.

RG: “Write a job description for a cloud software developer.”

CGPT: Cloud Software Developer Job Description:

ChatGPT is going to impact the recruitment industry and we are excited to see how. Are you?
